COURSE NAME : MQF 5 Certificate in Health Sciences – Nursing Studies (Bridging Course)

This bridging course is aimed at third-country nationals who possess a nursing qualification at minimum MQF level 5. This programme’s theoretical component is intended to bridge the cultural and ethical differences between their practices and Maltese hospital procedures. The Work Placement Clinical Practice, in fact, rather than supporting solely the theory, is aimed at familiarising the candidate nurses with the procedures and processes of Maltese hospitals.

This programme is built upon the competences, knowledge and skills as established by the EU Directive 2013/55.

This bridging course is designed to lead the candidate nurse through a study journey to advance in knowledge, skills and competences amidst the challenges presented in a a multicultural health care service. The study programme focuses also on providing learning opportunities of working within a multidisciplinary team in different health settings. The content includes developmental, physical physiological and spiritual aspects of human health as well as tools to deal with illness and challenging behaviour.

The study journey provides learning opportunities both on campus – theoretical and simulation sessions – and work placement clinical practices within a multidisciplinary team in different health clinical settings.

The ultimate aim of practice is always the optimal delivery of care to the patient in care. With this in mind, this programme has been designed following the requirements and parameters of nursing responsibilities as established by ‘The Scope of Professional Practice’ of The Council for Nurses and Midwives, Malta (CNM).

Also, this programme focuses on the Maltese legislations related to the sector and promotes the ‘Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct for Nurses and Midwives’, of The Council for Nurses and Midwives, Malta.

 

2. EUROPE COLLEGE OF INNOVATION

COURSE NAME: ( MQF L6) Award in Nursing and Health Studies (Bridging Course)

This programme allows learners who are in possession of a minimum MQF Level 5 full qualification in nursing or equivalent to practice Nursing as fIrst level nurses in Malta and/or European Countries. Recognitions Award in Nursing and Health Studies (Bridging Course) (EQF/MQF Level 6) is an Approved Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), which is recognised for advanced entry into corresponding degree year/top up and Bachelor’s/top-up programmes. Throughout the programme, students will have opportunities for formative assessment and feedback to support their learning and preparation for summative assessments. These formative assessments include in-class assignments, discussions, and case studies. The formative assessments aim to provide students with regular feedback on their progress and allow them to identify areas for improvement before the summative practical assessments and reflective journal. Reflective Journal (20%): The reflective journal component will be assessed at the end of the modules. Students will use the reflective journal to document their experiences, insights, and personal growth throughout the programme. The reflective journal will be marked by tutors and will provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their critical thinking, ethical considerations, and understanding of the practical applications of nursing principles.

3. Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST)

COURSE NAME : UNDERGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN NURSING STUDIES (BRIDGING COURSE)

This course is intended for non-EU citizens who are already in possession of a B.Sc. in Nursing Studies but who lack particular components in accordance with EU Directive 2005-36-EC.
The course aims to bridge this knowledge gap and cater for any missing learning outcomes found in the students’ existing certification.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to apply for registration with the Maltese Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Registration with the Maltese Nursing & Midwifery Council is required to practice as a nurse or midwife in Malta. The Malta nursing bridging programme will bridge the knowledge gap and develop the required work culture for prospective nurses and midwives to practice successfully in Malta.

For experienced nurses, the Malta nursing bridging programme is meant to expand their knowledge base in skills and areas that were not addressed in their original studies or prior profession.

Scope of Undergraduate Certificate Program in Nursing Studies

This Undergraduate Certificate programme in Malta is a nursing bridging programme that lasts six months. This curriculum fills up the gap and provides some knowledge based on European nursing standards. Students gain a broad understanding of social work settings and health science. They learn how to make decisions under pressure and how to make decisions in critical situations.

  • After 3 months of completion in Malta as a registered nurse, you can apply for a family reunion visa.
  • After gaining a minimum of 5 years of work experience in Malta, you can apply for a permanent residence visa.
  • You might be able to apply for an EU Blue Card as well. Citizens of non-EU countries can work in EU countries.

Nurses who successfully finish this course can register with the Malta Council of Nurses and Midwives as nurses. They will be able to practise as a registered nurse in Europe once they have completed their education.
